ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Galaxy Driving School administered tests are regulated and approved by the
Office of the Secretary of State. Students must:
● Successfully complete an approved Teenage Driver Education program;
● Receive a combined grade of A or B;
● Receive approval from parent/legal guardian;
● Pass an instructor-administered behind-the-wheel exam at Galaxy Driving
School.
To apply for a driver’s license at age 16, a student who has held an instruction
permit for nine months must visit a Driver Services facility and provide the
following: 50 hour certificate verifying practice driving time; written parental
consent; acceptable identification verifying full legal name, written signature,
date of birth, Social Security number and Illinois residency and the required fee.
The road exam is generally waived, however, to ensure the quality and integrity
of the program, some students may be required to take the road exam.
At Galaxy Driving School, our experienced driving instructors will do their best to provide your Teen with the highest quality service you expect. We desire to teach all students how to function safely as drivers. By working together with the parents, we will develop a driver with excellent driving skills and safety awareness. We offer the Teen Drivers Education program in accordance with the Illinois Secretary of State’s “Teen Accreditation Classroom and Behind-the-Wheel Requirements.” Our Teen Driver classes are based on the guidelines of The Illinois GDL (Graduated driver licensing) program, which is the national model for teen driver safety.
After completing the course and all behind the wheel lessons, tuition paid in full, and make up lessons completed (if necessary), Galaxy Driving School will immediately certify our students with the Secretary of State system. A few weeks after, a ” Certification of Completion” letter will be sent to the student from the Secretary of State, which can also be used toward high school credit in some cases.
The Permit allows the student to drive while supervised by a parent or adult; it is valid for two years. It must be held a minimum of nine months and must not get any convictions. The Teen must bring it to ALL practice driving or BTW training sessions.
The classroom is located at 6105 W. Addison. Our Teen Program consists of the Illinois mandatory 30 hours of Classroom (15 days/2 hours per day). Students can miss up to 4 classroom sessions, but each session must be made up. Students will be given documents enabling them to take the Instruction Permit Test at the Secretary of State’s office during class sessions. Parents are responsible for getting their Teen to the Secretary of State’s office to take their permit test and ensure that students are on time to driving & classroom sessions and get picked up immediately after.
Once the student receives his/her Learners Permit, he/she will be scheduled for a behind the wheel instruction; and observation if signed up with a partner. A copy of students’ learners permit must also be given to the office for record. After receiving the instruction permit, students are still required to complete the classroom portion of the course. If the student drops out of the course, the instruction permit will be canceled by the school, which initiated its issuance.
Our Behind the wheel sessions are scheduled by appointment and are convenient to suit the student’s schedule.
All students must complete behind the wheel instruction within three months from the first practice driving session. Failure to do so may result in an additional fee. By law, the entire course must be completed within nine months from the first classroom lesson.
Behind the wheel, sessions are scheduled to suit the student’s schedule and must be completed within three months from the first driving session. We offer convenient Home and School pick up/drop off Options! *(Fee may be added based on distance and package).
Driving Sessions:
Once the student receives the learners permit the behind the wheel lessons will be scheduled. A student may be driving in the vehicle with the instructor by him/herself or up to two other students. Students must have the learners permit on them at all times when driving or observing in the car. Students must wear glasses or contacts during in-vehicle lessons if they are required. Students are required to wear closed-toe shoes ‘no flip-flops) during the lesson for safety reasons.
The following is required before your Teen can start driving:
Approval Form:
During registration, the school will provide a Teen Driver Education approval form and school policy. Forms must be completed, signed, and dated by the student, parent, and school for the records.
Valid Learner’s Permit:
After registering for our Teen Driver program, the school will provide the student with the Learners Permit application, which is taken to the Secretary of State office with appropriate documents. To register for the program, you must call us to schedule an appointment to visit the office located at 6105 W. Addison in order to get the necessary paperwork completed for registration and obtaining a Learners Permit from the Secretary of State.
Certificate of Completion:
If you do not take the classroom portion with our school, you must get a copy of the driver’s education certificate (blue slip) from your high school or accredited driving school that shows you passed 30 hours of Classroom or an official transcript from the high school that shows you passed drivers education course. Galaxy driving school will issue a Certificate of completion upon completion of 30-hour classroom and Behind-the- wheel Lessons by the student as well as all tuition paid and make up classes completed (if needed)
